James D. Hudson, DMD

Dr. Hudson graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1982 and joined his father in the practice of restorative, prosthetic and aesthetic dentistry at this Rockefeller Center location. Dr. Hudson’s grandfather originally began the practice in 1917 moving to the current location when the International Building was completed in 1933.

This longstanding family history has helped Dr. Hudson appreciate the importance of professionalism and the need to give back to the profession and to the public we are fortunate to serve.

He has been affiliated with New York University College of Dentistry for many years. He currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor focused on facilitating seminars in Professional Ethics to post-graduate Prosthodontic specialty students. He has conducted and published original research in the field of prosthetic dentistry and has lectured regionally and internationally. He has also been appointed to the faculty of Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Dr. Hudson is active in several local, regional and national dental organizations. These include, among others, the New York Academy of Dentistry (President 2007), The American Prosthodontic Society (President 2013) and currently their Executive Director, Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (President 2020), and the American College of Dentists.

Dr. Hudson has served as a forensic dental consultant for the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, City of New York since 1988. After the events of September 11th, 2001, Dr. Hudson served as a Tour Commander of the Dental Identification Unit of OCME throughout the activation of the team. He currently serves as a Deputy Chief Forensic Dentist for New York City in charge of Manhattan and is a member of the OCME Special Operations Response Team.

He has served on his local Board of Education for 7 years having been elected to two terms and appointed to an additional year. He served as its President for two of the years.

But his greatest focus now is on providing care to the underserved and unserved. Beginning in New York City overseeing Dental Clinics, associated with the Boys Clubs of New York, Dr. Hudson has moved on to establish dental clinics to treat the underserved in La Romana, Dominican Republic. What began as the La Romana Oral Health Initiative has led to the establishment of a 501c3 World of Smiles Inc. (World-Smiles.org). Currently, WOS has developed a 6-chair dental clinic at the schools of Fundacion MIR to provide comprehensive care to their 1700 students, nearby orphanages, children from batayes, and the families and staff of MIR. We have a Dominican dentist serving as our Clinic Director year-round. We work in cooperation with the Dominican Republic Ministry of Health seeking to develop/implement country wide preventative programs. We collaborate with both Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine and Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine and have support from the New York Academy of Dentistry, making this a truly unique outreach.
